So, You're at Local Bar. Your Car  is Outside
And You've had One or Two too Many Drinks.
What do You do? Tell the Bartender to:
"Make it a Double..."  A Double Taxi...That is!

A Partial Solution to DUI and DWI in America!

Why Some People Drink and Drive: With all the legal perils for drinking and driving today, no reasonable person should get behind the wheel of a car after drinking 3 or 4 drinks. The key word is "a reasonable person." When we get near the .08 level of blood alcohol, we are not always reasonable. Yes, we are still aware of the dangers of drinking and driving, yet we rationalized that if I'm careful I can make it home this time.

The  problem is this; we don't want to leave our car, our pride and joy, our economic lifeline at a bar and risk vandalism. Worse yet, we don't want to risk being late for work tomorrow morning. Why a person drinks and drives basically boils down to bad choices, worry and inconvenience.

How,
"Make it a Double" Works: When you've had too many drinks to safely drive your car home, either you or you server call a local cab company who is fully insured and licensed to drive both you and your car home. When you or the bar tender calls the taxi service tell them you want a double taxi. One cab driver arrives and drives you in your car home while another cab and driver will follow you and your car  from the local bar to your home and  will "clock  the fare." The second cab will then return the first driver back to his taxi. You pay for two cab fares the total cost being usually less than $25 to $30. Just like you would have done if you called a cab the next morning to retrieve your car. The end result is both you and your car are home safe and sound and you don't have to worry about getting a cab the next morning and being late to work.

Benefits to Restaurant and Bar Owners:
The serving establishment's  job is to educated both it patrons and servers that "double taxi service" is available and to allow easy access to cab drivers to pick up and find customers who call for a double taxi. The upside to this program for the business owner is multi-facetted. It allows the establishment to show concern for the customer. It helps avoid "Dram Shop" liability. It's give the bar owner and his servers a reasonable tool to avoid criminal liability and possibly lose of their liqueur license.

Benefits to Taxi Cab Companies: The program allows both taxi owners and drivers to earn more money for their time and investment during slower day parts. By having two drivers in two vehicles it also provides both a safety factor and deterrent in the event a customer becomes unruly. If we are successful we may be able to use the program at some future date to help provide low cost loans and or grants to help owners field  larger and newer fleets to meet the program's needs and the needs of their customers.

Benefits For Comminutes:
Fewer drunk drivers on the road. Lower cost by not having local law enforcement, legal and jail resources being bogged down with drunk driving cases. The program also provides essential base tools to help develop local business and tourism expansion by encouraging  cab owners to field larger and newer fleets by taking advantage of planed  future low interest loans and grants.

Our Goals: 1)  Educate both restaurants and bars owners, employees  and their patrons to better alternatives when to much alcohol has been consumed. 2) Encourage development of local cab fleets. 3) Lobby for government grants and federally issued low interest loans for small cab fleets to help meet the programs needs. 4) Create and lobby for legislation that requires city, state and county officials as well as restaurant and bar owners to promote and educate customers and employees  about the benefits of the "Make It A Double Program," through both economic and legislative means.

Legislative Goals

Law Enforcement Goals: Laws to encourage law enforcement not to interfere with citizens who by their own choice are "exercising good and sound judgment" by using taxicab services after consuming alcoholic beverages. The exception being that "they pose an absolute eminent danger" to themselves  based on blood alcohol levels as set by state statue, or has "been observed to have made verbal or physical threats of harm against others" which pose an eminent danger to another person such as in domestic disturbance calls by peace officers.

Vehicle Advertising To Offset Costs: Encourage cities, county and state governments to pass laws allowing all licensed Taxi Cab fleets to advertise products that are not of a sexual nature on their vehicles to help offset cost of fielding taxi cab fleets during peak DWI / DUI hours. If said government agency allows advertising on either government, municipal transit or private vehicle it must allow advertising on all.

Extend Local Cab "Fleet Vehicle Life" For Peak DWI / DUI Periods: Encourage cities, county and state governments to pass laws allowing taxi cab fleet owners to extend the use of soon to be outdated vehicles for no less than 6 months and no more than 18 months for the exclusive use only during peak DWI / DUI hours for bar patrons only from the hours of 10 pm to 4 am.

Assuring Coverage During Peak Periods: Encourage cities, county and state governments to pass laws allowing taxi cab fleet owners to field both company owned and privately owned contract “hot shot drivers and their vehicles” to clock fares and shuttle taxi cab drivers back to their primary vehicles during double taxi cab runs from bars during peak periods and or holidays.

Encourage Affordability Of Mandatory Fleet Expenses: Encourage cities, county and state governments to pass laws allowing taxi cab fleet owners to obtain affordable insurance within reasonable state mandated limits from all Surety Companies licensed to do business in the state.
